The Governance Statement

In accordance with the Government's requirements for all governing bodies, the three core strategic functions of the St Veronica's R.C. Primary School Governing Body are:

Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction and ensure all statutory duties are met;
Holding the Headteacher to account of the educational performance of the school and its pupils and the performance management of staff;
Overseeing the financial performance of the school and ensuring its money is well spent.

Roles

Each governor has a specific role within the work of the school. The Governing Body works as a team and acts with integrity, objectivity and honesty, in the best interests of the children in our school.

The Headteacher and the Senior Leadership Team run the school on a day to day basis, but the governors provide support, assistance and challenge, acting as a "critical friend" to ensure that the school continues to maintain and improve high standards in everything it does.

As a Catholic school, the governors have an overriding responsibility to remain focused on the mission of the school to provide the best possible Catholic education for every pupil.

The Governing Body has two working sub-functions:

Resources
1. To monitor the finances of the school, oversee the financial performance of the school and ensure any money is spent effectively
2. Oversee the maintenance and development of school premises
3. Ensure that there are robust health and safety procedures and practices.
Standards and Effectiveness
1. Monitor and review teaching and learning, school data and statistics in order to identify strengths or any areas for improvement
2. Ensure that high quality and skilled staff challenge children to achieve their full potential

The Governing Body:

Fulfils 'The Governance Statement' above by reviewing and acting upon output and recommendations from the sub-functions and any other information and reports brought forward. The Full Governing Body meets six times per year and has ongoing correspondence and actions throughout the year.

To apply to be a Parent Governor, you need to have a child in attendance at our school and expressions of interest can be made directly to Mrs White
