    Reading

    Please try to read every night at home and record it in your child’s reading record.  We recommend reading for as many minutes as your child's age, plus four minutes.  Don't overdo it and be sure to congratulate yourselves each time!

    The teaching of phonics to young children, using Red Rose Letters and Sounds, is a gateway into the world of learning to read and write competently.  In Year 2 we continue to teach our children to recognise the sounds of the alphabet, to learn to blend those sounds together in order to read and write words.

    Short regular reading sessions really make a difference to the progress your child makes.

    Autumn 1 - We are Astronauts

    • Scratch
      Click on this link to open the Scratch welcome page.  To use scratch you need a Windows PC, laptop or tablet.  In order to get started simply click on the Create icon.  Alternatively, explore some of the current projects being show-cased, and see their code.

    • Daisy the Dinosaur
      A simple program in which you use algorithms to control Daisy the Dinosaur

    • Hopscotch
      Another way to code using an iPad.  Have an explore and see if you can see the similarities to Scratch and Daisy the Dinosaur

    • Kodu
      An alternative to Scratch, click the link to download Kodu another way to use algorithms and code on Windows based devices

     

    Summer 2 - We are photographers

    In this unit, you review photos online, practise using a digital camera, take photos to fit a given theme, edit your photos, and then select your best images to include in a shared portfolio.
